‘Sound of Music’ opens in Scotts Valley

The extraordinary and partially fictionalized story of the Von Trapp family’s escape from Nazi-controlled Austria comes to life this month as Scotts Valley Performing Arts puts on “The Sound of Music.”
The classic musical, featuring songs including “Climb Every Mountain” and “My Favorite Things,” opens Sept. 25 at the Bethany University Theater, 800 Bethany Drive, Scotts Valley, and will run through Oct. 11. The show starts at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays.
Scott Kravitz directs, and Kent Kurrus, a music teacher at Scotts Valley High School, is the music director for the time-honored classic.
Kurrus describes the show as a “balanced, wholesome family musical” and also his favorite Rodgers and Hammerstein show.
Tickets are $19 for adults, $16 for students and seniors and $10 for children younger than 10.
