The local Bonny Doon Equestrian Park is hosting its 13th annual Bonny Doon Art & Wine Festival on June 6 for the Bonny Doon Elementary School, where they will have fun activities, artists, food and wine for all those who are 21 and over to enjoy.
The festival, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., will host a variety of different attractions to help raise money for the school. These festivities will include live music from bands like The Naked Bootleggers and the Matt Conable Band.
“Sandra Cherk will be our featured artist, she works with pastel and watercolor,” said Katherine Astromoff, the marketing chair for the festival,“ There will also be botanical artists, a succulent artist, and artisan chocolates available.”
Additionally, there will be a silent auction, plenty of foods and drinks, as well as several different artists working with a variety of mediums for people to enjoy at 3675 Bonny Doon Rd. Tickets cost $75 in advance and $95 at the door.
“The ticket includes food, live music, we have a beer garden this year and of course our silent auction,” said Astromoff. “We will also be having a wine pull, where wineries bring some of their best wines.”
This event raises money for science, art, and music programs at Bonny Doon Elementary School. According to Astromoff, the school is using the funding towards programs like their vegetable garden and local river excursions.
“There is a program called Life Lab, where the kids get to experiment with what a local ecosystem is, and we also have our own vegetable garden,” she said.
The school is relying more heavily on this fundraiser to generate money for the schools programs because of rising enrollment.
“We are having an enrollment spike. The challenge is we do not get more money for more people, the school gets a specific allotment from the state,” said Astromoff.
Locals are drawn to the event because of the work that the community puts into selecting its venues. This year their featured artist is Sandra Cherk, who specializes in pastel and watercolor painting; although, another main attraction will be the artists that use succulents and botanicals to create their work.
