Carr Elite Football Camp

The Carr Elite Football Camp will be hosting a one-day camp for young aspiring football players on Saturday July 11, at San Lorenzo Valley High School.
The camp will be divided into two different times so participants will get to work with players in their age groups. Each session will be 2 and a half hours; the first time slot will be from 9 to 11 a.m. for 8 to 12-year-olds and the 12 to 2:30 p.m. session will be for 13 to 18-year-old players.
Brian O’Connor, a San Lorenzo Valley High School graduate, is helping to coordinate and put together this event with the Carr Elite Football Camp.
“This is the first year they have done regional camps,” said O’Connor, “SLV will be the second regional camp that they will be having.”
These sessions will provide students with the opportunity to work with two professional football players: David and Derek Carr. These two players will be offering help for all positions, and they will be working on a variety of different tactical strategies.
“They bring all their stuff to train the kids; they are very self-sufficient,” said O’Connor.
The Carr Elite Coordinator, Carla Cossy, specified that the camp is for all positions and also said that there will be camp souvenirs for the players. These will include things like shirts, photos, and raffle prizes.
“The camp is an all position camp, whether they are a quarterback or a receiver,” said Carla, “They will also be getting a shirt and a football picture.”  
The Carr brothers decided to stay local to continue their football training; they are centered in Bakersfield, where Derek is training for the NFL draft.
Derek is the Raider Quarterback and David was the #1 NFL Draft pick and Super Bowl Champion, while he was playing for the NY Giants. Their father, a 1971 SLV graduate, will also be coaching alongside them, bringing the family business full-circle.
Rodger Carr, the father, attended SLV high school and graduated college with a degree in physical education and has been working with his kids, as well as training and mentoring other young players, both in high school and in college.
“Most of this camp came about because Rodger Carr is an SLV graduate. He was a basketball player that got a huge scholarship to play in college,” said O’Connor. “Part of my reason for facilitating this is to honor Rodger.”   
Their coaching team also includes two others: Clayton Morovich and Eric Mahanke. Morovich is a strength and conditioning coach, and Mahanke is the head strength and conditioning coach that was a former Fresno State Bulldog wide receiver.
They began this camp in order to provide students with the opportunity to work with professional football players that are dedicated to creating a World Class Facility for students in the Central Valley.
