Al’s Pals wins Bocce Ball’s Grand Championship in both A Division and B Division of the City of Scotts Valley Parks and Recreation Department.
The City of Scotts Valley Parks and Recreation Department has two Divisions in the league, the “A” Division and the “B” Division. They play in the spring and summer at Skypark.
The “A” Division plays on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and the “B” Division on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Teams must enroll a minimum of six players and a maximum of eight players. There is a $5.00 enrollment charge for each member. A team can play with a minimum of three players or a maximum of eight players.
Al Telles has been a bocce ball fanatic for a number of years. In fact, his team, “Al’s Pals,” won the “A” Division championship and then beat the “Apple Valley Rollers,” the “B” Division champions, to become the Grand Champions. They have also been known to play as “Bocce Amigos.”
In the team photo (left to right) proudly holding both trophies are Bill Schraft, Al Telles, Steve Bogner, Alan Knox, Bruce Anderson, andTom Walsh. Team member Don Gomes was not available for the photograph.
Al and some of his fellow bocce ball players participate in tournaments in Los Gatos, San Jose, and all around this area. He says it is good exercise, fun, camaraderie, and good clean competition.
