The Scotts Valley High School girls’ volleyball program is having its most successful season in school history with a current record of 18 wins and 8 losses.
On Monday Oct. 24, in the first round of league playoffs, ScottsValley defeated a determined Santa Cruz High squad 17-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-19.
After starting slowly, the Falcons were led by Serena Garcia’s 16 kills and 7 aces. Garcia, who was hobbled by a sprained ankle, broke open the fourth and deciding game with a string of aces after Santa Cruz tied the game at 17 all.
Samantha Boyle added 19 kills for ScottsValley, frequently booming from the middle of the net.
Jianna Andrews frustrated the Cardinal hitters as she patrolled the back line and amassed a season high 25 digs. Falcon setters Ava Glassey and Emma Turner doled out 21 and 18 assists, respectively.
The Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League announced all-league selections.
Falcons honored were Samantha Boyle receiving first-team all-league as an outside hitter, Ava Glassey second-team middle blocker, and Marissa Espinola second-team all-league libero. Receiving honorable mention were Serena Garcia and Emma Turner.
On Tuesday, ScottsValley played the number 1 seed, Aptos, at HarborHigh School.
The Falcons are hoping that their record is good enough to get a CCS bid. They will know by Monday, Oct 31 as the CCS seeding committee meets this weekend to extend bids.
