The San Lorenzo Valley Chamber of Commerce will honor its Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Community Organization of the Year and Business of the Year Dec. 4 at its annual Community Awards Dinner and Celebration.
This year’s honorees are:
Dr. Terry Hollenbeck, Felton, Man of the Year
Lynda Hall, Ben Lomond, Woman of the Year
Santa Cruz Mountain Arts Center, Community Organization of the Year
Don Quixote’s International Music Hall, Business of the Year
Hollenbeck has been writing the “Your Health” column in the Press Banner for eight years. He has
practiced medicine for 42 years, most recently for 28 years as an urgent care physician in Scotts Valley until his retirement early this year.
He has been involved with SLV Core River Cleanup and recently started a cancer support group in the San Lorenzo Valley.
His father and grandfather were physicians. His father was a family doctor in solo practice on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, would bring his son along with on house calls. Grandpa Hollenbeck was also a family doctor in the early 1900s, making house calls in a horse and buggy and accepting chickens and garden produce as payment. Grandpa’s brother Henry Hollenbeck was a medical missionary in Africa.
Terry Hollenbeck spent two years as a medical missionary in Honduras, then on the Caribbean Coast working with Miskito Indians.
Lynda Hall has been an active community leader and volunteer for years, most recently with Relay for Life. She also spearheaded her own outreach program providing help to families in need: Lynda and Kidz Backpack Project, assisting low-income and homeless families by providing backpacks and school supplies for school children.
The SLV Chamber event is at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, at the Tyrolean Inn, 9600 Highway 9, Ben Lomond.
