Dawson Aris, Ralph Pike and Herb Lippe of Spring Lakes Mobile Home Park are handy in the shop, so when they were asked to produce the decor for Saturday’s Scotts Valley Christmas Tree Lighting Festival, they willingly obliged.
Their 8-foot tall wooden Christmas trees are built from donated materials and will be placed along the walkway from the community center to the senior center on Kings Village Road for the annual festival.
“We’re old builders, so it was fun,” Pike said. “They wanted us to make them strong, so we put a thick undercoat and paint on them.”
Lippe lent his artistic skills to the endeavor, hand-painting ornaments and lights on each of the 15 trees.
The Exchange Club of Scotts Valley coordinated the project, with the intention that the community would use the trees for many years to come.
The team of residents from Spring Lakes Mobile Home Park was more than willing to help.
“The city takes good care of us here at the park,” Aris said. “So we were happy to do something for the city.”
