Services will be Saturday, Dec. 12, for Floyd “Cap” Gofinch of Ben Lomond, who died Dec. 3 at age 83 following a lengthy illness.
Born April 4, 1926, in Tenstrike, Minn., Mr. Gofinch served his country as a merchant marine and was an ambulance assistant during the Korean War. He moved to Ben Lomond more than 50 years ago and volunteered his time at Mount Cross Ministries in Ben Lomond.
Mr. Gofinch also volunteered to drive students from San Lorenzo Valley High School to various construction job sites as part of an education program. He was a member of the Sons In Retirement and was an avid ham radio operator, serving his community in times of emergency.
He loved animals and adopted many creatures that needed a home. A talented gardener and woodworker, he created many beautiful things for his family and friends.
Mr. Gofinch is survived by his son, Frank Jay Leonard, and his wife, Joyce, of Ben Lomond; daughter, Nancy Mazzei, and her husband, John, of Santa Cruz; daughter-in-law, Leone Neal of San Francisco; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eris Gofinch, in 1979; and his second wife, Gloria Gofinch, in April 2008.
Saturday’s graveside service will begin at 1 p.m. at Felton District Cemetery, at Felton Empire Road and Blair Street, in Felton. A celebration of Mr. Gofinch’s life will follow at 2 p.m. at Mount Cross Ministries, 7795 Highway 9, in Ben Lomond.
