Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
Kiwanis operated refreshment booths for the Holiday Lights Festival on Dec. 5. The club sold homemade cookies, hot spiced cider, cocoa and coffee (thanks to Peet’s) for $1 at both the senior center and the rink. Members decorated a Christmas tree with $500 in cash. It was raffled off and then won by a Kiwanis member, who donated it to Valley Churches United Missions.
The Kiwanis also helped the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation at its Christmas tree lot.
The December dinner meeting was a breakfast at Peachwoods. It featured a scrumptious buffet, Christmas caroling by the Scotts Valley High School choir and a silent auction of unique gift baskets

The lodge then participated in the VCUM benefit by decorating a Christmas tree for the raffle with handmade decorations and handcrafted gifts. Members also volunteered at six stations for the poker walk.
On Dec. 19, lodge members prepared and delivered six hams and six bean casseroles to the SC Mental Health Client Action Network for its holiday party. They also donated personal-hygiene items the agency used as holiday gifts.
To recap 2009, the Lodge helped Meals on Wheels, the Alzheimer’s Walk, Monte Foundation Fireworks, Team in Training, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Friends of Scotts Valley Library, Cub Scout Pack 676, Youth Awareness, Familia Center, Mooseheart Charities and others.
