Museum to host open house, Steam Donkey ribbon cutting
San Lorenzo Valley Museum is teaming up with the Boulder Creek Business Association to host an open house and Steam Donkey ribbon cutting on Friday, Sept. 1, from 5-7pm, with the ribbon cutting at 5:30pm.
Celebrate First Friday by viewing the newest exhibition in the Grace Episcopal Gallery on the sawmills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, “A Cut Above the Rest,” and help in welcoming the Steam Donkey to Boulder Creek. Admission is free.
San Lorenzo Valley Museum, Grace Episcopal Gallery, is located at 12547 Highway 9 in Boulder Creek.
Scotts Valley council member to speak to North County Dems
Allan Timms will be the guest speaker for the Democratic Club of North Santa Cruz County on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
Timms will share his thoughts on his first year on the City Council and discuss how Scotts Valley is responding to the challenge of the sixth cycle Housing Element housing goals. He will also talk about the city’s efforts to move the Town Center project forward.
Timms, who recently became a U.S. citizen, brings unique perspectives to the Council both from private sector executive management as well as from the southern England countryside, where tractors are the biggest traffic problem.
Club meetings are held upstairs at Bruno’s Bar and Grill located at 230 Mt. Hermon Road in the Kings Village Shopping Center in Scotts Valley. Meetings start at 6:30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
Learning event features SLV Water District challenges
Learn about the unique challenges facing the San Lorenzo Valley Water District in providing safe, reliable water to customers during a community-led learning event on Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 5-6:30pm at the Felton Library.
During this program, “Special Challenges of Running a Water System in San Lorenzo Valley,” topics that will be discussed include: the SLV Water District’s exposure to frequent natural disasters as a result of its geologic setting; increasing susceptibility to wildfires and flooding in light of climate change; how the formation of the District by the merger of numerous small districts resulted in its relatively small number of ratepayers spread over a large area with steep topography; the need to protect watershed and sand hills habitat; and the financial costs associated with these challenges.

Chamber Mixer, Closing Reception set for Thursday
The Scotts Valley/San Lorenzo Valley Chamber Mixer will coincide with a Closing Reception on Thursday, Sept. 7, from 5-7:30pm at the San Lorenzo Valley Museum, Belardi Gallery, in Felton.
This will be one of the last opportunities to view the current exhibition, “From Footpaths to the Superhighway: How Connections Shaped Scotts Valley History,” presented by the Scotts Valley Historical Society. Admission is free.
