Scotts Valley and Felton Farmers’ Markets launch 2025 seasons
As spring unfolds, the Scotts Valley Farmers’ Market and Felton Farmers’ Market are preparing for their 2025 openings, bringing local flavors to their respective communities.
The Scotts Valley Farmers’ Market will begin on May 3 at the Boys and Girls Club at 5060 Scotts Valley Drive, running every Saturday from 9am-1pm until Thanksgiving. The market features a selection of local produce, including fruits, vegetables, artisanal bread and seafood.
Opening day activities will include face painting organized by the Boys and Girls Club and free mini scoops from The Penny Ice Creamery from 11am-1pm. Local farms like Luna Dorada and Groundswell will return, offering a variety of seasonal crops. Hidden Fortress will also provide breakfast and lunch options.
The Scotts Valley Market continues its Market Match Program, allowing CalFresh/EBT participants to double their purchasing power on fresh produce.
Meanwhile, the Felton Farmers’ Market opens on May 7, running every Tuesday from 1:30-5:30pm through October. Located in the St. John’s Church parking lot in the San Lorenzo Valley, the market will feature offerings, such as heirloom tomatoes, Blenheim apricots and a variety of artisan foods, including fish and chips and sourdough bagels from local vendors.
Opening day will also see a Strawberry Shortcake Giveaway and a jam workshop led by Jessica Tunis of Mountain Feed and Farm Supply. Throughout the season, the market will host live music and community events, including the FoodShed Project Event Series with workshops and activities.
Both farmers’ markets aim to connect residents with local farms and offer access to fresh organic foods. Special events like Applefest on Sept. 9 and the Pumpkin Decorating Bonanza on Oct. 14 will round out the season, encouraging visits to these markets.
Baroque music enthusiasts to enjoy concert in Boulder Creek
Boulder Creek is set to blast back to the Baroque era this May, building on the enthusiasm generated during February’s successful Baroque Week.
The community will welcome The Peralta Consort, a distinguished ensemble of nine Baroque specialists, for a concert at the Boulder Creek United Methodist Church (BCUMC), located at 12855 Boulder St., on Saturday, May 10, at 2:30pm.
The Peralta Consort will provide an authentic Baroque experience, performing on period instruments including baroque flute, recorder, violins, viola, viola da gamba, violone and harpsichord. This talented group draws performers from across the San Francisco Bay Area and features resident musicians Eric Finley and Anna Sombor, both of whom frequently collaborate with Concertino Strings.
The concert program will celebrate the works of renowned composers, such as Telemann, Bach, Vivaldi, and Handel, promising an afternoon filled with captivating melodies and rich historical context.
Admission to the event is free, but donations are encouraged. Proceeds will support both the performing group and a fundraising campaign for a much-needed new roof for BCUMC, which has stood for 150 years.
