Boulder Creek Odd Fellow Lodge #152 I.O.O.F. has announced an upcoming online silent auction featuring 11 captivating paintings by local artist Margot Slowik. The event offers art enthusiasts and community members a unique opportunity to acquire original works from one of Boulder Creek’s beloved painters.

Slowik, a versatile artist renowned for her mastery in American folk art and landscape realism, has created a series of paintings that celebrate the charm and natural beauty of Boulder Creek and its surroundings. Her folk art pieces whimsically depict scenes of town life, featuring townspeople, children, cats and dogs, capturing the spirit of small-town community and seasonal festivities. Her landscape works portray the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Pacific coastline, highlighting the area’s breathtaking scenery.

Born in Palo Alto, Calif., Slowik comes from a family with deep roots in the state, dating back to 1850. She studied at UC Berkeley and has exhibited her work in local galleries. Over the years, she has also dedicated herself to teaching art to both children and adults. Slowik’s childhood memories of visiting Boulder Creek—smelling the redwoods in the rain and marveling at the holiday lights in historic downtown—have long inspired her artistic vision.

After retiring from a career in the high-tech industry, Slowik and her husband Tom relocated to Boulder Creek in 1997. Nestled among the redwoods, her home provides a serene environment where she paints by a large window overlooking San Lorenzo Valley. She creates her pieces seated in a cherished rocking chair that belonged to her great-grandmother, Mimi.

“Each day is another opportunity to paint. This is my passion, I paint for the sheer joy of it. When I paint, I celebrate life,” Slowik said.

The public is invited to view Slowik’s artwork in person at the Odd Fellow Lodge Hall, located at 152 Forest St. in Boulder Creek. The exhibit will be open on Sunday, Nov. 30, from 10am-2pm, allowing visitors to experience how her paintings vividly depict the quaint features of Boulder Creek and its natural surroundings.

The silent auction will officially open online on Monday, Dec. 1, at 9am, and will run until midnight on Dec. 6. Bidders can place their bids on individual paintings, with the highest bid at closing securing the artwork. Once payment is processed via credit card or check, arrangements will be made for the winners to pick up their pieces.
