California homeowners still unable to obtain insurance in high-risk areas

I receive automatic updates from the California Insurance Commissioner stating that insurance carriers are once again writing homeowners policies in California. However, each time I contact the companies mentioned, I am told they still will not insure my home because it is located in a “high-risk” mountain area.

In my experience, the public messaging from the Insurance Commissioner is not matching the reality homeowners are facing. Despite repeated announcements suggesting progress, I remain effectively uninsurable and am forced to pay approximately $22,000 per year for limited coverage through the California FAIR Plan.

I cannot be the only homeowner dealing with this situation. One insurance agent even told me that some homes within San Jose city limits are considered uninsurable simply because they are located near open space areas.

The insurance companies are not doing what the public has been led to believe they are doing, and I do not feel enough is being done for Californians living in so-called high-risk areas. I believe this issue deserves further investigation and public attention.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
