Travelers on Highway 9 will encounter daytime and overnight one-way reversing traffic control Tuesday through Friday at multiple locations during the week of May 26, as several construction projects continue in the San Lorenzo Valley.
The work is part of multiple ongoing Caltrans projects north of Boulder Creek, including bridge replacements, pedestrian improvements and drainage upgrades designed to improve safety and long-term roadway reliability.
Bridge replacement work near Boulder Creek
The Highway 9 San Lorenzo River and Kings Creek Bridge Replacement Project includes full replacement of both structures.
The Kings Creek Bridge, at post mile 15.41 to 15.55, and the San Lorenzo River Bridge, at post mile 13.58 to 13.69, are both operating under temporary traffic signals that provide 24/7 one-way traffic control. The configuration allows crews to close the southbound lane as construction advances on the southbound portions of each bridge.
Beginning Tuesday, May 26, overnight work at the Kings Creek Bridge will take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. to expedite completion of a retaining wall. The work is scheduled Monday through Friday for approximately two weeks, excluding Memorial Day.
Felton pedestrian improvements
The Highway 9 Felton Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project continues construction of a sidewalk and bikeable shoulder along the southbound side of Highway 9 between the San Lorenzo Valley schools complex and downtown Felton.
Overnight one-way reversible traffic control is scheduled Tuesday, May 26, and Wednesday, May 27, north of Graham Hill Road at post miles 6.4 to 7.2 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for utility relocation work.
Drainage and erosion control project
The Highway 9 Upper Drainage and Erosion Control Improvements Project continues between Brookdale and the junction with Highway 236. The work includes culvert replacements, paving and erosion control upgrades.
A temporary traffic signal is in place for 24/7 single-lane reversible traffic control from 0.21 miles north of Clear Creek Road/Pacific Street to 0.32 miles south of Irwin Way at post mile 11.66. That setup is expected to remain in place through the end of September.
Additional utility and tree work
Utility work and tree trimming will require temporary traffic control from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations:
- May 26 and May 28: Post miles 4.94 to 5.44
- May 26: Post miles 16.4 to 18
Message and directional signs will alert motorists in advance of active work zones. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time when passing through the area.
