A San Jose motorcyclist suffered major injuries Tuesday evening after crashing on Highway 9 south of Sempervirens Point, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at about 7:04 p.m. on June 9 on northbound State Route 9. CHP officials said a 45-year-old man was riding a gray 2025 Kawasaki motorcycle at an unknown speed when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control and crashed onto the roadway.

After the initial collision, both the motorcycle and rider continued in a southeasterly direction. The motorcycle struck a metal guardrail east of the northbound lane, and the rider came to rest on a dirt embankment, CHP reported.

The rider sustained major injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a local hospital. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
