Santa Margarita Groundwater Agency is accepting applications for a Well Owner Alternate Representative to serve on its Board of Directors.

The agency, which was formed in 2017 to comply with California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, oversees groundwater management in the Santa Margarita Groundwater Basin, serving communities in the San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley areas.

Eligible applicants must own, manage or be served by a private or shared domestic well, a small water system well, or an irrigation well used for commercial, industrial, institutional, recreational or agricultural purposes within the basin. The position carries a three-year term and is unpaid.

Board members are expected to commit approximately five to 10 hours per quarter, including evening meetings, and must be able to communicate with and represent the interests of well owners in the community. The agency said ideal candidates will have experience and knowledge that can support implementation of the basin’s Groundwater Sustainability Plan and work collaboratively with other board members.

Applications are due by 5pm on June 24 and are available through the agency’s website smgwa.org.

Santa Margarita Groundwater Agency is a joint powers authority made up of the San Lorenzo Valley Water District, Scotts Valley Water District and Santa Cruz County. Its board also includes representatives from the cities of Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz, the Mount Hermon Association Community Water System and local well owners.
