Michelle Camerlingo joined the Press-Banner staff as a general assignment reporter this week.
Camerlingo, 25, is an Orange County native who earned her bachelor’s degree in American studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 2009. During her time as a Banana Slug, Camaerlingo served as the managing editor for the campus newspaper, City on a Hill Press, where she developed a nose for news.
“Michelle is a fair, diligent and approachable journalist — exactly the person we were looking for to join our team,” Press-Banner General Manager Amanda Matthews said. “I’m sure our readers will be pleased, too.”
Camerlingo interned with the Santa Cruz Sentinel and spent time as a reporter at the Martinez News Gazette. Most recently, she has written for the Santa Cruz Weekly.
In addition to dancing, Camerlingo’s passion is local news — news that affects the community. Camerlingo said she’s excited to continue learning about Scotts Valley and the San Lorenzo Valley.
“Michelle’s interest in covering local news is evident in her writing,” said Peter Burke, Press-Banner editor. “I’m excited to see our local coverage improve with her as part of the Press-Banner reporting team.”
