Chris Greenly, a 24-year-old Santa Cruz resident who grew up in the San Lorenzo Valley, remained in critical condition this week, recovering from surgery after being seriously injured in a one-car accident in Ben Lomond on Nov. 21. His family reported this week that his Dec. 14 surgery went well and that his condition was improving.

On Dec. 18, a benefit disc golf tournament at Black Mouse Disc Golf Course in Felton drew a record number of competitors – 82 – and raised more than $5,000 to help with Greenly’e medical expenses, through donations, raffle tickets and the sale of “Team Greenly” discs.

A Gofundme account set up in Facebook in Greenly’s behalf had raised more than $22,000 in 20 days, with 199 contributors.

Supporters said the campaign was trending, and was shared by 1,500 people. A Press Banner article posted on pressbanner.com was visited by more than 1,300 people in less than a week.
