The San Lorenzo Valley Middle School production of “Annie Jr.” began Thursday and will run through Dec. 17.
Director Will Guilford and musical director and choreographer Karen Pajak-Stanley based their play on the Tony Award winning musical “Annie” which first opened on Broadway in 1977.
The story takes place during the Great Depression in New York City and follows the journey of Annie and her quest to find a family and a better life. More than 40 students — Bella Martin and Zoe Heath-Nieto who both play Annie and Liam Hackett and Shiloh Lawton as Daddy Warbucks — will sing the now-classic songs from the musical: “Hard-Knock-Life,” “Little Girls,” “NYC,” “Easy Street,” and “Tomorrow.”
Rachel Young and Braelyn Carroll will share the role of Miss Hannigan, Sara Dube and Mia Hammilton will switch off playing Warbucks’ assistant Grace, Ben Calden Julian Polom will each take performances as Rooster, while Kelsey McCabe and Nevaeh Russell will both portray Lily St. Regis.
“Annie Jr.” shows at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays through Dec. 17. Tickets are available at the show.
