The small outdoor pool at Siltanen Park will remain closed throughout the summer as renovations continue.

Upgrades have been in the works for months, but when crews got to the site, they discovered things were worse than City staff had realized.

Santa Cruz County’s Environmental Health Department found the project needed to be expanded significantly.

And some of the Siltanen Swim Center’s features, such as its stairs, have to be completely redone to bring the facility up to code.

The recreation asset is also being resurfaced.

“Council approved the additional work, but it means the pool will not open this summer at all,” said Mayor Donna Lind. “This is a great disappointment to us and the community, but there is nothing the City can do about it.”
