Community called out to tear down arts center ceiling

Scotts Valley Performing Arts is looking for community volunteers to help in demolishing part of the Scotts Valley Community Performing Arts Center on Saturday.
Ray Gorski, volunteer crew chief for SVPA, put the call out earlier this week in a newsletter to the community. Gorski said the group is removing the drop ceiling and some concrete to accommodate theater changes that improve wheelchair access, increase the size of the stage, and audience visability.
“We will leave the concrete to the pros but the ceiling project is all ours,” he wrote. “Bring your spouse, your friends, your teenage kids and their friends. We need all hands on deck for this major demo push.”
Gorski asked community members to bring tools, gloves and eye protection to the theater, 251 Kings Village Rd., between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Volunteers will have to sign liability waivers and parents must sign for students under age 18. SVPA will provide water but volunteers will have to provide their own lunch.
People can RSVP to work or get more information by emailing [email protected] or calling 461-1715.
