We all know fitness makes us strong, fit and healthy, but being in great shape is not just limited to those benefits. What happens if you get a fracture or break or if you had to get a procedure done, such as a surgery. How will your body respond from the healing? How healthy is your body, how strong are your bones currently to bounce back from something like that.

For most of us, when we think of fitness we associate having muscles, lean abs and to be skinny, but our bodies are made for so much more than to look good in a bathing suit.

Our bodies are made to heal and mend when something harmful happens to us. If your body is in poor health, it may make the healing process that much more drawn out, you may not heal fully or there may be complications. Being in great health and strong or being in poor health will be a huge factor during your healing phase.

It is apparent that the likelihood of a patient returning to a physically healthy state is also dependent on the level of health they are currently in leading up to the surgery. Prehabilitation is based on the idea that patients with a higher functional capacity, or fitness level, will better tolerate a surgical procedure, have fewer postoperative complications and demonstrate better functional and surgical outcomes.

Healthier patients will most likely experience less pain and fewer side effects after surgery and bones will mend stronger and at a quicker rate after a possible fracture or break.

Even small improvements in fitness have been connected with substantial improvements in survival. If you are one who doesn’t have a background in healthy living, that’s OK, you can start now. Fitness does not have an expiration date or age limit to getting a healthier body.

The less you abuse your body or even eliminate the heavy drinking, smoking, poor eating, not training and the more you add in being physically active, drinking your water, eating cleaner and getting adequate sleep, gives you the higher chance of reversing all the damage and strain you’ve been putting on your body.

By making these positive actions, you will soon feel the changes and your body will start to become that strong healing machine that it’s meant to be. Truth is, we can’t predict the future and accidents happen to all of us at any given time.

So, why wouldn’t you give yourself the best chance at getting in the healthiest physical state you can be to fight off and heal quickly when these harmful events happen.
