In the movie Independence Day, we heard “….We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! So today, we celebrate our Independence Day!”

We did fight, we did struggle, and we did survive and unite. Now, we stand ready to party. Unanimously, people express their desire to celebrate, connect, live with one another, and get those long-awaited hugs.

Safety first

While the State of California has opened up many of the Covid-19 restrictions, please defer to Santa Cruz County Health Department guidelines, santacruzhealth.org/coronavirus.

About our event organizers

I met with Donna Lind, Scotts Valley City Councilperson and chairperson, and Karen Edwards, president of the Boulder Creek Business Association and officer at Liberty Bank. These two women are leaders in our community, and continuously step up to organize these city events.

Both will tell you, though, that without volunteers, board members, local businesses and organizations, city and county officials, and you, the public, these events would not be happening. Your help, support and donations are monumental.

Each expressed their gratitude for all your support and delighted at seeing faces light up when people hear about the upcoming 4th of July celebrations.

The bottom line is, are we ready to watch a parade, go shopping, eat out and dance on the sidewalks?
