Letter: Fatal crash highlights Granite Creek safety issues

After hearing about the tragic fatality on Granite Creek Road last Wednesday, it saddened me to think another family is mourning the loss of a loved one. It causes me to question what role the condition of the road may have played. I have traveled the road daily for 12 years and have witnessed its continuing deterioration. The road is used as a main artery for families and daily commuters. The road is a 2.5 mile stretch of potholes, blind curves, and in a normal winter, one huge puddle after another.  
I have written our county supervisor and called public works to keep this issue in the forefront.  The reply is always the same, no available funds. I find it ironic that the county removed a cross marking the scene of a double fatality, claiming the cross was a distraction. Yet the 12-foot sinkhole that, in my opinion, may have played a role in the crash nearly 10 years ago remains and continues to increase in size. Something needs to be done.
