EDITOR,
There is a great debate about the redistricting in Scotts Valley. Now that it’s finalized, it’s time to reflect and see the benefits.
First is that Scotts Valley will have more representation, not less. It may be unfortunate that Mr. Dene Bustichi now lives in District 1, but he can remedy that by moving across the road and sparing the city an unnecessary court challenge, which has been reported to be funded by and come from the city’s Redevelopment Fund, which is earmarked for low-income housing.
I hope he chooses the right thing and protects the most vulnerable over his self-interest.
Our economy requires that we have regional participation. This realignment may be a bitter pill for some, but there are merits to it. Supervisor Mark Stone has been an ally of Mr. Bustichi, and together they had the same set of rules. This is an opportunity for showing some faith. It is an opportunity to have more and open dialog with a balance of voices. This is not about loyalty — it’s an issue of economic, social and political integrity.
