Craig Winter Is Working to Make Felton, SLV Safer
The tragic CZU fire was a wake-up call bringing our community together around an urgent question: What can we do now to reduce the risks of the next wildfire? It was time to act.
Many of us discovered Firewise, now a strong movement in San Lorenzo Valley. Santa Cruz County ranks No. 2 nationally, with 137 sites. As a leader participating in Firewise events, I’ve seen dedicated residents sharing information and working together to make our community safer.
That’s where I met Craig Winter, chair of Forest Lakes, the largest SLV Firewise site. He’s approachable, knowledgeable and eager to listen and offer advice. Through our interactions and Firewise events he has helped organize, I’ve been impressed by his vision, ability to turn ideas into action, and commitment to making Felton and the entire SLV safer.
Last year, Craig was appointed to the Felton Fire Board when our Firehouse was struggling and faced the possibility of closing. He helped explore options to preserve our district and build sustainable emergency services for Felton.
Our community ultimately united behind a new assessment, which passed with overwhelming support. Craig is committed to delivering what residents are investing in: reliable emergency response, responsible spending, wildfire preparedness, long-term planning and measurable results.
Craig isn’t just talking—he’s doing the work to ensure rapid response, well-trained crews, dependable equipment, strong community partnerships with Firewise and the public, and sound financial planning.
Craig is running for a permanent seat on the Felton Fire Board. I urge Felton voters to get to know him, support him, and vote for him. Based on the energy, integrity and commitment I’ve witnessed, Craig will help ensure our investment delivers on its promise.
