A 21-year-old Santa Cruz man was struck by a car and killed while walking along Highway 17 near Pasatiempo early Saturday morning.
According to a report from the California Highway Patrol, the man was walking on the east edge of Highway 17 southbound just north of Pasatiempo Drive when for unknown reasons he entered the roadway and was struck by a Hyundai Sonata driven by a 30-year-old Scotts Valley man driving south.
The collision occurred at 4:20 a.m. Neither the driver or passenger of the Sonata were arrested. An investigation by the CHP is ongoing.
The Santa Cruz Sheriff-Coroner’s Office said they contacted the man’s family on Monday morning, but chose not to release his name to the public because the news “was very difficult for the family,” a Coroner’s investigator said today. The investigator said the deceased man is from Santa Cruz.
