Mountain Charlie Ride sign-ups underway

Organizers seek riders for the 10th annual Mt. Charlie Challenge Fundraising Bike Ride.
The annual ride has raised more than $200,000 during its nine years to benefit the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation.
This year the ride will take place May 5. There are three options for rides – The 50 kilometer ride starts at 9 a.m. and has modest climbs through Santa Cruz County; the
100-kilometer ride starts at 8 a.m. goes past beautiful wineries and forests up to the summit; while the 100-mile ride starts at 7 a.m. and stretches from the Summit to Elkhorn Slough across scenic and sometimes challenging climbs. This is the first year the 100-mile ride is offered.
Riders can register at www.active.com for $75 until April 20 when the fee increases to $100.
Riders receive a t-shirt, goodie bag, ride support, staffed rest stops, raffle tickets, weekly training rides preceding the ride, ride-day bike tuning and repair services, and a post-ride barbecue lunch prepared by Scotts Valley Kiwanis, and a music concert in Skypark.
This year a children’s bike ride and other family activities are planned for Skypark during and after the ride.
The Scotts Valley High drumline will perform and Back to Nowhere, the winner of a recent high school battle-of-the-bands, will perform in Skypark.
