Valuable items to be auctioned for school
About $10,000 worth of items, including autographed NASCAR goods, area gift certificates and autographed “Twilight” movie posters, will be auctioned to benefit Mt. Hermon Play School, the Felton-area preschool, on Saturday, May 9.
The benefit will be at Felton Bible Church, 5999 Graham Hill Road. A barbecue and preview will be from 1 to 2 p.m., with bidding starting at 2 and tables closing at 3:15.

Bonny Doon’s new Saturdoon market
Bonny Doon’s monthly Saturdoon market, with an emphasis on Mother’s Day gifts, will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Bonny Doon Elementary School.
Intended for local shoppers, Saturdoon includes homemade soaps, handmade jewelry, clothing, cards, produce, baked goods and nut-seed milk. Proceeds this month will benefit the Crisis Support Shelter Service for women.

Mother’s Day firefighter breakfast
Felton firefighters will prepare breakfast Sunday, May 10, to honor area mothers.
The annual Mother’s Day Breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Felton fire station, 131 Kirby St., and will feature pancakes, French toast, sausage and eggs cooked to order.
The meal is $8 or $4 for children younger than 12, and proceeds will finance the purchase of equipment and training for volunteer firefighters.
Roses on exhibit Saturday
The Monterey Bay Rose Society’s annual rose show will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Alladin Nursery, 2905 Freedom Blvd., in rural Watsonville.
Wine tasting and music by Full Swing, a jazz band, will accompany the display of several hundred roses.

BC festival slates entertainment, art
Some 200 artists and craftspeople will display their works and local bands will entertain at the 20th annual Boulder Creek Art, Wine and Music Festival on Memorial Day weekend, May 23 through 25.
Festival director Gary Walker said the “juried fine arts row” will return, with a jury of local artists choosing the artisans to be included along Highway 9 from Big Basin Way to Forest Street.
Music will include rhythm and blues, jazz, country, folk, rock and roll and bluegrass. Local wineries and food booths will offer tasty treats, as well.
Attendance along Highway 9 in downtown Boulder Creek is free.
