Damians Ladder hosts fundraiser for home repairs

Damians Ladder, a nonprofit organization that assists seniors and the disabled in Santa Cruz County in making small home repairs, is presenting a “Fix It Handyman Fundraiser” from 5-8pm Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Moose Lodge, 2470 El Rancho Drive, in Santa Cruz.

This “plaid and boots” themed five-course dinner includes a no-host bar, silent and live auctions, drawing and games. Attendees are encouraged to wear plaid, jeans and work boots. Tickets are available at damiansladder.org.


Annual Holiday Gift Shop opens Friday

The Annual Holiday Gift Shop at Valley Churches United in Ben Lomond opens Friday, Nov. 1. The gift shop is open Monday through Saturday from 11am-4pm.

Volunteers have created an exquisite display, making this year’s gift shop an exceptional holiday shopping experience. The gift shop features holiday décor for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, all at very reasonable prices.

All proceeds from the gift shop support Valley Churches United’s nonprofit year-round food pantry. The Gift Shop is located in the heart of Ben Lomond at 9400 Highway 9. For more information, call 831-336-8258.


Pasatiempo Art and Wine Fair benefits local youth

The Pasatiempo Art and Wine Fair, benefitting the local Youth on Course, will be held at the Hollins House, 20 Club House Road, on Nov. 3 from 12-4pm.

There is no entry fee for the event, which includes wine tastings for purchase, a silent auction and raffle tickets. House-made pizza and other beverages will be available for purchase.

The event will feature a diverse group of mediums from talented local artists. Artfully crafted wines from Rombauer, Cayman and other fine wines are included in the flight of tastings.

In addition, a silent auction will offer bucket list experiences of a hosted round of golf for three at Spyglass Golf Course with a Youth on Course staff member, round of golf for four at the eagerly awaited renovated Pasatiempo Golf Course, and golf lessons from Pasatiempo pros. 

The raffle will include unique holiday florals, fine wine and other event-themed items.

The event will support the local Youth on Course, whose “core purpose is to give young people access to life-changing opportunities through golf.” For more information, contact Susan Thomas at su****@ya***.com.


Meet library director at Scotts Valley Library

Come meet new Santa Cruz Public Libraries Director Christopher Platt during an informal meet-and-greet event at the Scotts Valley Branch Library, 251 Kings Village Road, on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 4-5pm.

The event is part of a series of events that Platt hopes to hold at every branch, to meet and connect with the community. Platt wants to provide the public with an opportunity to learn about his experience leading libraries, to ask questions and exchange insights about the important role Santa Cruz Public Libraries play in the community.
