PAVING NEAR THE FISHHOOK ON HIGHWAYS 1 AND 17 NEXT WEEK

A ramp paving project near the Fishhook on Highways 1 and 17 will take place next Monday, Nov. 9, Tuesday, Nov. 10 and Thursday, Nov. 12, weather permitting, Caltrans officials announced on November 5.

Valley Churches United Missions loses David Mills

Valley Churches United Missions’ Board of Directors announced that David Mills has tendered his resignation as Executive Director of the Ben Lomond non-profit organization. The board is planning to hire an interim Executive Director to assume Mills’ duties until a permanent replacement can be found.

Local residents presented with high honors

Gathered at the Highlands Park Senior Center on October 25, were friends and family of the recipients of the Marcum-Hammer Award for 2015. Among the friends were sprinkled a few celebrities. Anna Eshoo led the presentation by describing the achievements of both Hallie Greene and Jim Rapoza.

Businesses Going Green in North County

On October 6, 2015 at the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors meeting thirteen businesses in Santa CruzCounty were awarded the Green Business Certificate. Among this group was Scotts Valley Sport at 203 Mt. Hermon Road, in ScottsValley.

New library materials provide stuttering support

With the passing of International Stuttering Awareness Day on October 22, it may be prudent to note that the Santa Cruz Public Library has acquired new materials that support those with the speech impediment.

Local surfers dominate women’s surf competition

The scene was festive; the sun was shining, and the waves were firing in perfect conditions for last weekend’s annual Women on Waves Surf Fest longboarding contest at CapitolaBeach. LocalSan LorenzoValley surfers, April Martin-Hansen and Susie Deutsch couldn’t stop smiling after dominating their preliminary and final heats in the Juniors and Grand Masters age divisions, respectively.
