It will be weeks before the votes are completely counted, but it appears Jim Hart will be the next sheriff of Santa Cruz County and Scotts Valley will pass a bond to pay for a new Middle School.

On Saturday, June 21, 2014, Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter and Friends of Watsonville Animal Shelter will host the Healthy Dogs Shots Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Planned Pethood South Clinic, 150a Pennsylvania Ave. (one block north of Ramsay Park) in Watsonville. Dogs will receive FREE rabies shots, FREEdistemper/parvovirus shots, FREE microchips (includes registration) and information on low-cost spay or neuter options.

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Richard “Ernie” Poston died Monday, May 19, 2014. Poston was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1935. He served the public on the San Antonio police force after military service in the US Navy. He relocated to California in 1966, eventually settling in Boulder Creek.

Lots of teachers inspire by opening the door to learning new things.  Some special teachers with how they approach their craft can inspire and enrich their charges years after the final school bell has run. One of these for me, and thousands others, was San Lorenzo Valley High’s Lee Overbeck, who died Wednesday from leukemia.
