Cabrillo College welcomes new president

When Cabrillo College welcomes its students on Sept. 3 for the Fall semester, the students will have a chance to meet the school’s new president.

Teachers welcomed back in Scotts Valley

The Rotary Club of Scotts Valley provided an all-staff breakfast and checks for $500 to each of the four schools in the Scotts Valley Unified School District on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Jack Anthony Elzer: June 14, 1934 to Aug. 13, 2013

A memorial and celebration of life will be held next Saturday for Jack Anthony Elzer who died peacefully at home in Scotts Valley surrounded by his family.

Free Music at Skypark returns Sunday

This summer’s third Music at Skypark concert will strike its first chords Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in Scotts Valley. The Joint Chiefs, a popular band based in San Jose, will open the show with a mix of funk, acid jazz and classic R&B. Headlining will be Santa Cruz’s own Extra Large, a favorite in the Valley and voted the Best Local Band in Santa Cruz eleven years running. 

Musich, Loftus wed

Jim Musich and Lori Loftus were married June 20 in a private ceremony at a beautiful secluded beach south of Carmel. Musich is an automotive machinist in Santa Cruz, and Loftus is a second grade teacher in Los Altos. Their home is in Ben Lomond.

Assisted living home donates to fallen officers

Residents and staff of Oak Tree Villa donated $1,500 toward the families of deceased Santa Cruz Police Officers Loran “Butch” Baker and Elizabeth Butler on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Water hike approved by Lompico water board

Nearly 30 customers of the Lompico County Water District showed up Wednesday night at the Zayante Fire Department for a heated, and at times testy, two-hour public dialogue with the district’s board of directors on the merits of a proposed rate increase.
