The public memorial service for two Santa Cruz Police Officers who were killed in the line of duty will be held in San Jose on Thursday.

Santa Cruz County Department of Public Works announced today that motorist can expect delays and possible lane closures on Graham Hill Road on Tuesday, March 5, as crews will be working to activate the newly installed traffic signals at the intersection with Lockewood Lane.

When Seagate pulled out of Scotts Valley in 2011, the mainstay company left large, empty buildings in its wake and the city without its largest employer.

Services are planned March 23 for Charles Albert Discoe Jr., a longtime Scotts Valley general contractor, who died Feb. 20 at his home in Murphys. He was 95.

A funeral was held this week for Harold F. “Hal” Wells, a retired golf pro, who died Feb. 22 in Santa Cruz following a lengthy illness. He was 76.

San Lorenzo Valley High School students heading back to campus in August may deal with extra noise, dust and debris, as work on a new Performing Arts Center could start as soon as June.

A memorial service will be held March 11 for World War II veteran David E. Faunce, a Scotts Valley resident who died Feb. 12. He was 88.
