A group of some of the best prep football players in the area got together one last time to play not just for themselves but for a good cause, as well.

Team Juan Cuevas posted a 17-6 win over Team Louie Walters in the 38th Central Coast All-Star High School Football Game at Rabobank Stadium in Salinas on Jan. 20.

Both teams competed for local charities selected by the head coaches.

North Monterey County High head coach Juan Cuevas picked the FSU 4 LOS charity in honor of Carlos Gonzales, a local renowned photographer who started ProPix Media.

Gonzales is currently fighting ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig Disease.

“I was very happy to see Carlos Gonzales at the game and even happier that we were able to win for him,” Cuevas said. “It was an honor coaching these very talented players this year. Glad everyone had fun and made memories that will last a lifetime.”

North Salinas High’s Damaje Roberson caught the first touchdown of the evening, while fellow Vikings teammate Justin Pascone added a rushing touchdown that gave Team Cuevas a 14-0 lead.

UNLV bound Isaac Mancera of Salinas High kicked a 44 yard field goal for Team Cuevas late in the second quarter, giving them a 17-0 lead at halftime.

Team Walters got on the scoreboard late in the fourth quarter to avoid the shutout loss.

North Salinas High’s Christian Campos and Salinas High’s Lincoln Johnson each recorded an interception, and North Monterey County High’s Jesse Martinez made the game-sealing sack.
