When several Scotts Valley High students were arrested on suspicion of stealing guns and an Xbox from a Scotts Valley home last week, the unusual circumstances around the case turned it into the talk of the town.

The life of a wine truly starts with the soil in which the grapes are planted. Grapes get all of their nutrients from the soil, and it’s those nutrients and terroir that will define many of the wine’s flavor profiles.

A reporter once asked Warren Buffett, the world’s greatest investor, this question: “Mr. Buffett, you are the richest man in the world, worth billions. Why do you wear cheap suits?” Buffett replied: “I don’t wear cheap suits. I wear expensive suits. They just look cheap on me.”

The 2010 influenza season officially begins in October, but cases of flu in some areas of the country have already been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The infection usually peaks in January, February and March and usually ends by May. It is impossible to predict ahead of time how bad the flu season might be, but as we learned with the H1N1 (swine flu) last year, it’s best to be prepared.

 

The recent proposal for a medical marijuana outlet in Scotts Valley raises many questions, most of which I leave to those who know best about law enforcement, zoning, liability and other legal considerations. But underlying all of this is the question of the application of marijuana (Cannabis sativa) to the treatment of medical problems.
