Luthien Marie Mohamed was born at 12:13 p.m. Oct. 6, 2010, to Julia J. and Aaron J. Mohamed of Bonny Doon. She weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces at Kaiser Permanente Homestead Campus in Santa Clara.

Our Western culture tends to idealize youth, while showing little respect or courtesy for our aging, mature population. However, many countries in the world honor their elder citizens. Age, in those societies, is symbolic of experience, wisdom and knowledge, which is shared with the younger generations.

There's nothing like the long days of summer to get you thinking you could really get used to this. The plants are blooming, the veggies are finally producing and it seems summer will go on forever.
