- Logan Rialto Brown was born at 7:54 a.m. July 27, 2012, to Tarah Marie (Snow) and Chad Jared Brown of Boulder Creek. He weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces when he arrived at Sutter Maternity & Surgery Center of Santa Cruz.

For most of my life, I’ve been passionate about music. Not my own — I barely qualify as a wannabe musician. But I love other people’s music, recorded tunes.

• Anthony Montoya was born at 6:41 a.m. Oct. 23, 2009, to Carmen Lucia Rojas and Rogelio Montoya of Mount Hermon. He weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces at Santa Cruz Dominican Hospital.

 

Some years ago, I was turning into a parking lot when the car behind me plowed into the back of my cherished 1968 Mustang. The offending driver ran up, babbling, “I’m sorry, but I was beating my kid and didn’t see you turning.”

In his classic, “The Pretender,” Jackson Browne lamented, “I’m going to be a happy idiot and struggle for the legal tender.” As Browne keenly observed, money (and life) creates angst. It is also the major factor that leads to civil lawsuits. When asked to explain what a civil attorney does, I say that it usually boils down to either arguments about money or arguments about what to do with money.
