- Kayden Alessio Koppe, son of D’Ambra Dawn Graham and Anthony Mario Koppe of Brookdale, was born at 10:45 p.m. Jan. 8, 2012, at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. He weighed 5 pounds, 11 ounces.

Your Health: Radiation exposure fears dispelled

There has been much hype about radiation danger since the recent tragic events in Japan. Right off the bat let me dispel several common fears. As of this writing there is absolutely no need for anyone on the west coast to take potassium iodide pills to prevent thyroid cancer. There has been no significant increase in the local levels of radioactive iodine here on the West Coast, and unless conditions at the Fukushima plant radically change, it is unlikely that we will receive dangerous levels here.

Falcons trounce Pirates in memorable homecoming; Cougars fall

The Scotts Valley High School football team put a shellacking on the Harbor High Pirates in the Falcons’ 56-12 homecoming victory Friday, Oct. 21, when two homecoming queens were crowned, along with one king.

Volleyball team finds success with seniors

A core group of seniors on the Scotts Valley High School volleyball team have started the season with a 4-5 overall record, despite a recent 3-1 loss to visiting Mount Madonna on Tuesday night.
