Nature Friendly: A river runs through us

“Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.”

- Autumn Rain Underwood was born at 2:10 p.m. Sept. 10, 2013 to Jammie Leeann Underwood and James Orivs Nay. She weighed 7 pounds at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz.

Logan Ryan Wins Writers Contest

Ben Lomond writer Logan Ryan, age 8, took 2nd place at the Southern California PBS Writers Contest award ceremony in June. His 2nd grade teacher, Gabrielle Brick, told Logan about the contest, and he decided to enter in May. Logan’s mom Brianne Ryan said, “Logan's teacher and I are so proud he won second place out of hundreds of competitors.”

Valley Neighbors: Blind Pilot Jewelers reflects on 40-plus years in SLV

Blind Pilot Jewelers is one of the oldest retailers in the San Lorenzo Valley. Its history stretches back to the early 1970s, when Sheila De Lany and her husband, Jerry, opened a small jewelry store in the downstairs of a Felton cafe.
