Scotts Valley Water District warns of odd odors during pipeline testing

Construction of the Brookdale Lodge is finally under way after the iconic landmark has sat vacant for nearly four years.

Scotts Valley Middle School is in for a serious makeover, with demolition of the entire school scheduled for the summer of 2016 followed by a year-long construction process.

With the arrival of Highway 17, travelers no longer drove directly through Scotts Valley on the way to and from the beach. Tree Circus owner Axel Erlandson, sold his iconic attraction in 1963 to the Thompson family, who changed the name to the “Lost World.”

It’s been five years since gymnastics instructor Vern Vargas opened the doors of his Scotts Valley studio and training facility. Since then, the Vargas Academy of Gymnastic Arts and Parkour has grown by — quite literally — leaps and bounds, steadily offering more and more programs, teams and classes to the students of Santa Cruz County.

Scotts Valley High School Junior Alannah Schwartz, flew to Washington DC last week to attend the American Diabetes Association’s annual premier national advocacy event, Call to Congress.

Despite losing three key players to graduation, the Scotts Valley High baseball team is hopeful to repeat the success of 2014, when it was part of a three-way tie for the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League crown.

Featuring a mixed roster of upperclassman veterans and underclassman rookies, the Scotts Valley High softball team has its collective eyes set on the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League championship.
