Cheers to County Supervisor Dene Bustichi in his commentary last week about school funding. But why a parcel tax? It’s time to turn off the tax spigot and force government at all levels to live within its means — that is to say, within our means. Is it really unreasonable to have to choose between attracting and keeping good teachers and funding new facilities? Families and small businesses make choices like that every day.

• Tavio Sol Valdivia was born to Erin (Timms) Valdivia and Brian Valdivia of Boulder Creek at 8:24 a.m. Feb. 10, 2010. He weighed 8 pounds at home.

In his latest letter attacking the city and its progress on the Town Center project, Frank Kertai said Scotts Valley paid “recklessly” high prices for the key Town Center parcels it purchased with Scotts Valley Redevelopment Agency money — funds that cannot be used for any general fund expenses. In particular, he attacked the city’s recent decision by an unanimous vote to buy the critical land owned by Suburban Propane and finally relocate their propane tanks away from Mt. Hermon Road.

I recently tuned in to a local radio station talk show in which the host and a “non-medical doctor” were criticizing vaccinations by citing false information and providing their personal bias. I would like to offer my view of vaccinations.

The state’s financial woes and their impact on our local school system are by now well-established.
