A Message on the City’s Fiscal Emergency
To all of the readers of last week’s article about the City of Scotts Valley’s fiscal emergency and Measure Z: thank you. The City was pleased with the engagement on this article and I’m happy to provide additional information based on some questions.

Patrick Sweeney, soon to be graduate of Scotts Valley High School, has recently committed to pitch for CSU, Stanislaus. He has played baseball since he was five, and coaches refer to him as “a team player with a mid-80’s fastball and a devastating slider, pitching with great command,” great work ethic,” “smart kid who hustles,” “bulldog mentality on the bump.” Principal, Mike Hanson describes him as a “scholar athlete,” “known to have great integrity, “and his youth pastor says, “Patrick has a relentlessly positive attitude,” and “he lights up the room with his presence.”
Falcon girls fall to SC in five
A spirited five-set girls volleyball match between Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz High schools resulted in a loss for the Falcons this week, dropping the squad to 4-5 in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League and 7-6 overall.
Local scout troop marks historic event
Local scouts in Troop 614 marked an historic event in the pre-dawn hours of Feb 1 as a dozen young women were allowed to join the Boy Scouts of America for the first time and participated in a flag raising ceremony.
