Linda Skeff is on a mission- to eradicate invasive species and restore native plant habitat up and down the San Lorenzo Valley. After three years of leading teams of AmeriCorps Volunteers to “pull out the invasive and restore the natives”, Skeff has her sights on a nearer term goal than the whole valley, but no less ambitious.

Seems like just about everything is in bloom. Sure, there are many plants and trees whose season is still a ways off, but the flowers of early spring really get our attention.

Sometimes you cannot see the forest for the trees, but I think most of the time you cannot see the trees for the forest. California’s Arbor Day Week gives us an opportunity to pause and celebrate our trees.

Some of us live on sandstone; some of us live on granite; and some of us live on marble and that makes a difference, according to geologist Jeff Nolan. He and other natural science experts spoke recently at a public planning meeting for the San Lorenzo Valley Water District’s Felton watershed property.

Martial arts instructor Elliot Stone was at Scotts Valley High School nearly all day Tuesday showing P.E. students how to defend themselves if they are ever attacked, and even better, how to avoid the situation all together.
