Santa Cruz Warriors host sixth annual ‘Pajama Night’ on Friday | NBA G League

Attendees are encouraged to dress in pajamas, donate unused pajamas for underserved youth

SANTA CRUZ—The Santa Cruz Warriors are set to celebrate its sixth annual “Pajama Night” event this weekend.

Basketball fans are encouraged to bring a pair of new, unworn pajamas to Friday night’s game against the NBA G League Ignite at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

The donated pajamas will go to the homeless youth and teens in Santa Cruz County through the Project Pajamas initiative. Fans are also asked to wear their own pajamas to the game to show support for the non-profit.

The first 1,000 fans to arrive at Kaiser Permanente Arena will also receive a Santa Cruz Warriors Sleep Mask.

Santa Cruz Warriors President Chris Murphy said they are excited to partner with Project Pajamas for the sixth annual ‘Pajama Night’ game.

“We work directly with many youth organizations in the community, and we see this night as a way to give back to children in need,” Murphy  said.

Project Pajamas was started in 2007 by Santa Cruz County Superior Court Judge Ariadne Symons. The project aims to bring a sense of comfort to children in a time of crisis with a focus on homeless children and children in transition.

Some of the organizations that benefit from Project Pajamas are the Walnut Avenue Women and Children’s Shelter, Barrios Unidos, Valley Churches United, CASA and the Rebele Family Homeless Shelter.

Symons said that more than 230 pairs of pajamas were donated and distributed throughout the community through Project Pajamas during the 2019-20 Pajama Night at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

“Pajama Night at Kaiser Permanente Arena is a good way to shed light on the issue, as well as a fun, easy way for people to donate,” Symons said.
