Scotts Valley Middle School Drama will present “Footloose: Youth Edition” May 15-16 at The Landing, the Scotts Valley Performing Arts Center, marking the program’s first performance at the venue.
The production features a predominantly eighth-grade cast, with many students taking the stage for their final middle school performance before moving on to high school.
Caleb Neves stars as Ren McCormack, Milo Boynton plays Reverend Shaw Moore, Raaga Chandiramni is Rusty, Bennet Coburn portrays Willard, Eva Orlando plays Urleen and Lila Rizzi stars as Ariel Moore.
“We are so excited to use the huge stage at The Landing; it makes it so real for the cast and crew to use the professional stage and space,” said SVMS Drama director and teacher Alexie Neall. “Our tech crew is most excited; The Landing has so much to offer for our show, including a state-of-the-art light system, as well as a sound system that will blow your socks off and is perfect for our students to shine in ‘Footloose.’”
High school senior Jaycee Barber serves as choreographer, with assistance from Brynn Rizzi and Kaedance McCollum.
Based on the 1984 film, “Footloose” follows a teenager who moves from Chicago to a rural town where dancing is banned, leading to conflict and a push for change within the community.
Performances are scheduled for 7pm Friday, May 15; 2pm Saturday, May 16 (understudy performance); and 7pm Saturday, May 16. Tickets are available at cur8.com/25828/project/138031.
