Softball champs crowned
The champions of the IOOF San Lorenzo Valley softball league were crowned on Sunday, June 2 in Felton.
In the A-Division of the Co-ed Recreational League, the Steelheads defeated Torture 15-9 in the championship game. They finished the season with a perfect 11-0 record.
The Bad News Beers were the B-Division champions, defeating the Coyotes 17-11 in the final. Summer league games will begin June 10. For information and scheduling, http://ioofslv.teamopolis.com
Softball team splits at tourney
The Scotts Valley Trouble under-18 gold division traveling softball team finished 3-3 at the Memorial Day Classic in Roseville May 25 through 27.
Kelly Linkletter smashed five homeruns and drove in 13 runs during the tournament to lead the way for the team. Nicole Getzschman and Sigrid Holtrop each had seven hits and each batted .583 to lead the team. The Trouble next head to Stockton for the Gold Territorial tournament, June 21 through 23.
Erlin gets first MLB win
Scotts Valley High graduate Robbie Erlin tallied his first major league win on June 1. He pitched 6 2/3 innings for the San Diego Padres, allowing 8 hits and two runs while striking out four in a 4-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Erlin, a lefthander, was sent back to the Padres Triple-A affiliate in Tuscan, Ariz. after the game. He was making a spot start for Clayton Richard who missed the start after he was forced to pitch two inning so relief the night before.
