Scotts Valley Middle School wins golf championship
The Scotts Valley Middle School golf team won the Middle School Central Coast golf championship behind low scorers Sean Verankamp — who was also named Player of the Year — Sam Jackson, Bubba Rogers and Colton Marshall.
The team finished the season 7-1 and defeated Aptos in the final, 165-171, after losing by one stroke earlier in the season.
Other SVMS golfers in the championship included Phil Considine, Eli Bariteau, Tyler Bissell, Nico Ponza, Chris Martin and Drew Pagliaro.
The team was coached by Mike Igoe and Geoff Martin.
Hoops camps in Scotts Valley
Boys and girls basketball camps will take place this summer at Scotts Valley High School.
A girls camp, hosted by varsity girls coach Jim Hart, is June 22 through 26. Third-grade through sixth-grade students play from 9 a.m. to noon, and seventh-grade through ninth-grade students play from 1 to 4 p.m.
The cost is $150 per player or $125 per player for families.

A Back to the Basics boys camp hosted by Dan Mooney is from June 29 through July 2. Boys in fifth through eighth grade will play from 9 a.m. to noon, and those in ninth through 12th grade play from 1 to 4 p.m.
