SLV girls polo falls in CCS
The San Lorenzo Valley girls water polo team’s season ended in the Central Coast Section playoffs with a loss to Aragon High from San Mateo on Nov. 10.
The Cougars, who shared the league title with Santa Cruz High as they made their first CCS postseason appearance, fell 13-8 to Aragon. SLV (13-6) was the ninth seed in the tournament, and Aragon (11-11) was the eighth seed.
In the final match, Marissa Petras, Savannah Prather and Cameron Kellogg scored two goals each for the Cougars.
Bruins volleyball players named all-conference
Bethany University freshman outside hitter Jessie Alcorn and sophomore setter Kirsten Duren were named to the California Pacific Coast Conference first team for their play.
Bethany sophomore outside hitter Becky Heiner was named to the second team
The Scotts Valley university also took home two 2010 individual accolades, as Duren, a transfer from Division 1 Boise State, was honored as Newcomer of the Year and Alcorn received Freshman of the Year honors.
Sophomore middle blocker Ashley Coila and senior libero Kim Feigles received All-Conference honorable mention nods.
