Girls volleyball falls in second round
The Scotts Valley girls volleyball team’s playoff run ended in the second round of the Central Coast Section Division IV tournament on Nov. 7.
The No. 9-ranked Falcons lost to Mercy of San Francisco 3-1, winning the first game 21-25 before falling 25-20, 25-18, and 26-24.
Maggie Witzig had eight kills and four aces, Allison Twisselman made 13 digs and Lexi Stevens had 34 assists.
The Falcons completed their season with a 12-13 record.
Girls polo falls in playoffs
The best season in San Lorenzo Valley girls water polo history ended in the second round of the Central Coast Section tournament.
After defeating rival Aptos 10-9 in the first round of the playoffs on Nov. 6, the Cougars fell to St. Ignatius College Prep 16-4 on Saturday, Nov. 10.
Hayley Smith and Marissa Petras led the team, tallying two goals each in the loss.
The Cougars finished the season 18-5 overall.
Little League registration opens in Scotts Valley
Registration for Scotts Valley Little League has opened online at www.eteamz.com/scottsvalleyll.
The 2013 season begins March 2 for single-, double- and triple-A and Majors.
Cost is $140 per player until Dec. 15 and $165 after that. Families with more than one player receive a $25 discount for each additional player.
The league also seeks managers for the 2013 season. League president Colin Roberson welcomes inquiries through the league’s website. Manager interviews are scheduled for Dec. 11 and 13.
SLV Girls Softball registration now open
The San Lorenzo Valley Girls Softball league is accepting players until Dec. 31 for the 2013 season.
Girls in the community from 4 to 14 years old can register to participate.
In-person registration will be open between 9 a.m. and noon Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Ben Lomond Fire Protection District, 9430 Highway 9. Those who register in person can pick up their sweatshirt early for no extra cost.
Players can also register online.
The cost for players 8 and older is $100; all other age brackets cost $125. A family rate of $180 is also available. Credit cards are accepted.

Falcons demolish Sharks to close season
The Scotts Valley High School football team finished its season with a 55-13 win over St. Francis on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Cabrillo College.
Ari Wargon rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns and Garrett Johnston was 5-for-6 for 122 yards and two touchdowns for the 5-5 Falcons, who went 4-2 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play.
Willie Johnston and Andrew Stumbo both scored two touchdowns, and Ian Howard and Jake Rehnberg each scored once.
The Falcons missed a playoff berth by losing tight games to the two teams ahead of them in the standings, Aptos and Soquel, at the beginning of league play.
